Special Issue "Advanced Technologies for Bridge Design and Construction"

Published https://www.mdpi.com/2504430

Large-scale natural disasters are occurring around the world more frequently than ever before, destroying necessary infrastructures such as buildings, roads, and bridges. Bridge structures, which link cities and/or prefectures, are particularly vulnerable to natural disasters, and due to their key role, they have to be rebuilt as quickly as possible. Thus, the reasons that damaged bridges collapse as a result of natural disasters must be investigated, and new types of suitable bridges must be designed that are stronger, tougher, more modern, and which recover more quickly. In this Special Issues, papers are invited that focus on intelligent, advanced bridge technology concepts developed through scientific investigation of disaster zones, e.g., quick, smart, automatic, and modern IoT systems that are not dangerous, which can be used for reconstruction or to reduce the damages caused by natural disasters.

Given your well-established expertise in the conference topics, we are pleased to invite you to contribute to the special session SS06 – Real world applications of OMA-based testing and monitoring.

This Special Session is focused on recent developments and applications of vibration-based testing and monitoring of structures, such as bridges, buildings, wind turbines, towers, dams, transmission lines, or other civil engineering infrastructure. Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Innovations on the dynamic (ambient/forced vibration) testing of structures.

    • Optimization of sensor distribution.

    • Vibration-based updating of numerical models.

    • Design, implementation and management of dynamic monitoring systems.

    • Strategies for vibration-based monitoring: continuous monitoring, population-based monitoring, etc.

    • Effects of environmental and operational conditions on modal properties.

    • Vibration-based post-earthquake and seismic assessment.

    • Vibration-based system and/or damage identification.

Further instructions to authors can be found at the conference website: https://www.evaces2023.polimi.it/

If you would like to take part in this Special Session, you are invited to submit online your one-page abstract before September 30th, 2022. The abstract must be submitted through the conference website, but we kindly ask to please send to either of us just a simple e-mail message confirming your interest.

  2. Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to announce the 21st International Conference on Fracture, Damage and structural health Monitoring (FDM2023) will take place at Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus, during 12-14th September 2023. It was decided at the 20th meeting in Malaga on 5-7th September 2022 to include structural health monitoring in the running title of the meeting to emphasis in new found importance alongside traditional structural integrity topics.

The aim of the conference is to promote further international co-operation among Scientists and Engineers from different disciplines involved in the study of Fracture and Damage Mechanics.

The overall objective is to produce an integrated approach to problems of Fracture Failure, Fatigue, Structural Health Monitroing and Safe Design.

The conference will discuss papers on any topics listed below and others related to the objectives of the meeting. The participants are encouraged to review critically existing ideas and to explore new research ideas.

    Conference Topics

    Fracture Mechanics

    Fatigue

    Failure Analysis
